This breakout session is the abridged version of the masterclass

The session seeks to delve into the thematic areas of – Community and Climate financing towards resilience and growth in value chains in the era of COVID – 19 and the climate crises. The session seeks touch on the fundamental driver of all economic activities, energy and how key it is to introduce renewable energy solutions in the rural areas. Small holder farmers live in rural areas and they impact our communities, making them food secure and healthy, in so doing reduce the effects of 2 major contemporary challenges we face. It is important to note that sustainable or green energy is key to reducing carbon emissions into the environment. Aspects of sustainable finance instruments to unlock investment both through private and public sources, home and abroad; policy initiative; socio economic and political barriers that hinder investments in the rural areas will also be explored. Various elements of business strategy will also be touched upon.

The session is applicable as home is where the roots are. In most cases the roots are the rural areas. These have to be connected to value chain development and resilience to ensure people do not deprived of basic needs such as food and basic health care even if they are grounded by a catastrophe such as a health crises or climate disasters. Value chains are anchored on both hard and soft network infrastructures that allow people to earn a valuable quality of life, preserving the environment whilst achieving economic rents.

This session will help attendees to focus on and take action for driving the delivery of UN SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy ; SDG #10 – Reduced Inequalities ; and SDG # 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
