Loreen Walker has been an Attorney-at-Law for more than 40 years. She has worked in the private and public sectors and academia. Her experience spans commercial, corporate, labour, pension, insurance, intellectual property and sports law.
Her main areas of interest are intellectual property and sports. Jamaica has comparative advantage in both areas and Loreen would like to see Jamaica, and indeed the rest of the Caribbean, realise their full financial potential in these areas.
In 2002, Loreen became the first Head of the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) and worked very closely with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) to put JIPO on a firm footing. After leaving JIPO in 2005, Loreen worked with the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board (Regulatory Division), home of the world-famous Jamaica Blue Mountain® coffee. She later moved on to The University of the West Indies’ Regional Headquarters where she still works. She advises the university on inter alia intellectual property and technology transfer matters.
Loreen is also a director and legal counsel for the Jamaica Jerk Producers Association Limited, the owner of the first geographical indication registered in Jamaica, Jamaica Jerk.
A sports enthusiast, she is a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA).
Loreen holds an LLB (The University of the West Indies), LLM in International Intellectual Property Law (University of London) and a Global Executive Master in International Sports Law (Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economiá, Madrid, Spain).
