Abi Tairu is a Trade Commissioner in the Ontario Regional Office of the Trade Commissioner Service, Global Affairs Canada. The Trade Commissioner Service or TCS helps Canadian companies navigate the complexities of international markets and make better business decisions. Abi is responsible for supporting Ontario companies in the Information Communications Technology (ICT) sector. As the Ontario Regional Office Champion of Black-owned businesses, she is actively sharing events and opportunities to increase awareness of TCS services with Black-owned and diversity businesses.

Prior to joining Global Affairs Canada, she has worked as a consultant and educator within business development and information technology areas across different areas including post-secondary education, not-for-profit organizations and the private sector. While working at Royal Bank of Canada, she led the implementation and training of an automated solution that effectively impacted ~125 business owners within a 6-month timeframe. More recently, she led a government funded initiative and developed a strategic, training plan for a new Women Entrepreneurship Program that attracted 33 women and resulted in the creation of new businesses within the Greater Toronto area.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business from the University of Central Connecticut State University (on a full scholarship) and a Masters’ degree in International Economics from the Florida Atlantic University. She also obtained a certificate in Lean Six Sigma and Risk Management. Currently, she is working toward her Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation.
